Good Morning. It’s another Monday. This is John Garrett coming to you with an episode of Green Apple Slices and I’m so excited to bring back my cohost and the brains behind all this operation, Rachel Fisch, everybody.

Rachel: He finally admits it. That’s why he keeps me around. Hey, John. How are you doing?

John: Doing great, doing great. I’m so excited I’m actually in Atlanta. We’re doing sage sessions tomorrow. We’ll see if we can live up to the hype from all the other cities especially Toronto.

Rachel: That’s going to be a tough one to beat for sure. I’m in Calgary and I’m going to be heading to Edmonton later this week.

John: I’ve heard of those cities. I know what’s up. That’s awesome. But yeah, every Monday, we always kick off the week for everybody just talking through an article that we find online. This is one that I found called Four Ways Corporate Culture Positively Affects your Bottom Line. It was on a blog on epicosity.com. I don’t know where I find these, but I thought it was really good blog. It had four ways, not one, but four ways that corporate culture impacts your bottom line because I don’t think people really care and they don’t understand it. I think that’s important to talk about.

Rachel: I also like that it starts with a video. It’s like, if you aren’t going to read a three minute blog, you can just watch the video.

John: Right, exactly, like I don’t have time for this. But four different ways and they were employee retention. It helps team building. It helps increase the efficiency and profit growth. I was like, look at that everybody, all from heaven of great culture.

Rachel: First of all, no rocket science here. It’s all the same stuff. Every time we talk about culture, it talks about retention, it talks about growth and it talks about building community and team building and all of that stuff. Cool. It’s just reinforcing what we talk about week in and week out. I was a little disappointed when I got to the profit growth thing because everybody says, well, everybody knows that this is what the stats say. I have yet to see whether it’s a video or whether it’s a blog, whatever, actually dig in to why or how. What is it about highly engaged employees that actually makes them more productive and increases profit? Do they work faster, do they work longer hours, what actually is the thing? I thought that this would have that in it and it didn’t.

John: Right. I think it’s in part two. I think the one above increase the efficiency, I think that, that is certainly a part of it and also lower turn-over. So you’re not paying to recruit and train up people to get up to speed for the people that they left. I think that that certainly impacts the bottom line as well. I mean the stat here that companies with contented employees consistently outperform their competition by almost 20%. There is a link here, so we could get into a little more of those details — oh, no. It’s not. It’s a 404 page can’t be found. So that’s neat. No, that’s a great question though to get into the how of that. I think that it is just people are happier, they’re just more productive because they’re not disgruntled and just going through the motions. There’s actually an energy and a vigor to what they’re doing.

Rachel: I don’t know. I have a lot of energy and vigor when I’m angry and disgruntled.

John: That’s true. I would look long and hard for an article that can answer that question for you.

    Rachel: Awesome.

John: If people want to read the article that we found here, you can check it out at greenapplepodcast.com and you can read about the Four Ways that Corporate Culture Positively Affects Your Bottom Line. Share it with everybody.

    Rachel: Awesome.

John: If you like what you’re hearing, maybe not on this episode, but in other episodes.

Rachel: Because the other episodes are really good.

John: If you can hit subscribe. Here on Wednesdays, I do one on one interview with people and then on Mondays with Rachel. Be sure and check that out and hope everyone has a good rest of the week. Enjoy your travels, Rachel.

Rachel: Thanks, you too, John. Talk to you later.
